One of the stories of The *Arabian Nights which became popular in the late 19C as a subject for *pantomime (the marvels of Sindbad's seven journeys offer spectacular opportunities for stage effects). His best-known exploit concerns the terrifying Old Man of the Sea, who refuses to get off Sindbad's back after being given a lift over a stream.
