Hever Castle
|
|
(16km/10m NW of Tunbridge Wells) Rectangular stone castle in a moat, its exterior walls dating from the 13C. It was at Hever that *Henry VIII courted *Anne Boleyn. The interiors which saw the beginnings of that ill-fated romance were dilapidated when the castle was bought in 1903 by the American millionaire William Waldorf Astor. He restored it, added the 'Tudor village' to house his guests and created the lake and gardens.
