Harefield Hospital
|
|
Britain's leading hospital for heart and heart-and-lung transplants, situated in the countryside about 32km/20m west of central London. A specialist surgical team was established there in 1980, led by Magdi Yacoub (b. 1935). By the late 1980s, with an average of 150 transplants performed every year, the Harefield programme was the largest in the world. Harefield Park, in which the hospital stands, was the home of the founder of the *Lancet.
