BIBLICAL EVENTS IN MECCA

Biblical events in Mecca

Adam and Eve are believed by Muslims to have lived near Mecca, after their expulsion from paradise, and it is said that Adam built a shrine where the Ka'ba now stands. Hagar and Ishmael nearly died of thirst here, until the angel showed them the well which is still to be seen in the great mosque.

It was here that *Abraham was willing to sacrifice his own son to God (Ishmael rather than Isaac in Muslim tradition). And it was Abraham and Ishmael who built the Ka'ba, on the foundations of Adam's shrine, basing it on God's house in heaven.
