Queen Victoria's Census Return, 1851 Born in 1819 at Kensington Palace, Victoria became Queen of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland in 1837, and Empress of India in 1876. She died in 1901.

Victoria married her cousin, Prince Albert of Saxe-Coburg-Gotha, in 1840. Together they had nine children (Victoria, Albert Edward, Alice, Alfred, Helena, Louise, Arthur, Leopold and Beatrice). She became Britain's longest reigning monarch and ruler of the largest empire the world had ever seen.

However, not even royalty escaped inclusion in the census returns. Here, in this 1851 census return taken at Buckingham Palace, Victoria is entered simply as 'Queen' under the heading Rank, Profession or Occupation.
