Waterloo Campaign Medal, 1815 This medal was awarded to Driver William Gallas, of the King's German Artillery. It was enclosed in his discharge papers, dated 24 February 1816, and was found among the archives of the British Legation at Frankfurt.

The Waterloo Campaign, a series of battles fought in the area between the Franco-Belgian border and Brussels, was comparatively brief. The French army, under the command of Napoleon Bonaparte, was opposed by a Prussian army under Blucher, and an allied British, German and Dutch-Belgian army under Arthur Wellesley, 1st Duke of Wellington.

After initial Allied reverses against the French at Ligny and Quatre-Bras on June 15th and June 16th, Wellington determined to make a stand in front of Waterloo.
