This presentation sword was made for Lord Collingwood, Nelson's second in command at Trafalgar. Its inscription records that it was voted by the City of London, in recognition of Collingwood's action in the battle, in November 1805, but it was not made until 1806/7, and it is thought that Collingwood, who died commanding the Mediterranean fleet in 1810, never actually received it. ix.909
