This Corinthian helmet is typical of the bronze helmets worn by Greek hoplites, the spear-armed heavy citizen infantry that formed the mainstay of classical Greek armies, from the late 7th century BC down to the early 5th century. It is regarded as one of the most beautiful types of helmet ever made, reflecting as it does the exact shape of the skull underneath. iv.541
