Waterloo Station
|
|
(London SE1) Terminus in two parts, serving the regions southwest of London from the main station (rebuilt 1902–22) and the southeastern regions from Waterloo East, from which trains cross the river to their final destination at *Charing Cross. In 1899 a direct underground link was constructed from the main station to the Bank in the City of London – a service still much used by commuters and known as 'the Drain'. Waterloo became in 1994 the first international terminus for the *Channel Tunnel trains, with a new terminal building designed by Nicholas Grimshaw.
