Peter de Wint
|
|
(1784–1849) English watercolourist who unlike many of his contemporaries made only one trip abroad, to Normandy in 1828. His subjects were gathered on regular sketching tours in England and Wales. Lincoln featured prominently in his art, as a result of visits there every summer to stay with his wife's parents, and Gloucester was another favourite. Born in the pottery town of Hanley, in Staffordshire, de Wint came to London in 1806 and two years later joined the Associated Artists in Water-colours.
