yuppies
|
|
Both the concept and the word are American, but yuppies became a familiar part of the British scene when young people began earning huge salaries in the City in the excitement surrounding *Big Bang. The letters stand for 'young urban professional people' but in Britain are often taken to mean 'young upwardly mobile people' – a group separately identified in the USA as yumpies.
