Wye
|
|
River which rises in central Wales, in Powys, and follows a tortuous course of 210km/130m southeast into England, passing through Hereford and Ross-on-Wye before forming for its last few miles, below Monmouth, the border between Wales and England; at Chepstow it flows into the Severn estuary. Deservedly the birthplace of the *picturesque, it is rich in both natural and man-made beauties (Symonds Yat, *Tintern Abbey). Some of its tributaries have been dammed to form the *Elan Valley reservoirs.
