(Women's Royal Air Force) A female section under this name was established in 1918 on the same day as the *Royal Air Force, and was disbanded in 1920. It was re-established in 1939 for World War II under a different name, the WAAF (Women's Auxiliary Air Force), which was changed to WRAF in 1949. Women are involved in nearly all air force activities, serving now even in aircrews.
