(the Elder, 1704–54; the Younger, 1728–81) Architects, father and son, who between them were responsible for much of *Bath. The father, also known as 'Wood of Bath', had worked as a young man on terraces being built in London in the developing *Georgian style of neo-classicism. Deciding to improve his own native city in the same manner, he returned in 1727 and began the process which transformed it into the greatest of England's 18C urban landscapes.
