Woman's Hour
|
|
(BBC from 1946) Weekday radio programme which in nearly half a century of broadcasting has changed gradually but radically to reflect the shift in women's lives – from mainly domestic and often frivolous items in the early years to a much wider range of issues. One regular feature, the serialized book, has remained constant and popular. There has been a remarkable constancy too in the presenters – Marjorie Anderson from 1958 to 1972, then Sue MacGregor until 1987, followed by Jenni Murray. There was something of a furore in 1990 when the programme was moved from its hallowed time of 2 p.m. to 10.30 a.m., but there it remains.
