(13km/8m NE of Guildford) The garden since 1904 of the *Royal Horticultural Society. In addition to being a large and beautiful garden (97ha/240ac), it has many small areas laid out in response to the needs and interests of the public. Some are planted according to species, others in relation to differing conditions and types of soil. Particularly popular are the 'model gardens' – including one each for fruit and herbs, one demonstrating hedge and ground cover, three showing what can be done with small areas, and one with suggestions for the disabled or elderly.
