Windermere
|
|
The chief lake in the *Lake District and the largest in England (17km/10.5m long). From its northern reach, near Ambleside, the distant peaks of Helvellyn and Scafell are visible. At the town of Windermere, on the east bank, there is a museum of working steam boats. It was on Windermere that Henry *Segrave died in 1930.
