(1857–1941) Architect and designer, an exponent of the *Arts and Crafts movement. His houses were often in the simple style which he considered traditionally English, with strongly delineated roofs and chimneys above low white walls. His fabrics and wallpapers were in the tradition of William *Morris, but often with a more delicate touch.
