The Vicar of Wakefield
|
|
(1766) Novel by Oliver *Goldsmith. The vicar is Dr Charles Primrose, whose good nature is more than matched by his ill fortune. This includes the loss of all his money and the burning down of his house; the seduction and abandonment of his daughter Olivia by the wicked Squire Thornhill, who then plans the same for another daughter, Sophia; and the assault and casting into jail of his son George. After many complications, all ends happily.
