'Veni, vidi, vici'

(Latin for 'I came, I saw, I conquered') The famously brief account by *Julius Caesar of his own military success. Usually believed in Britain to have been said about his conquests here in 55–4 BC, he in fact used the slogan on his triumphal return to Rome after a brief campaign in Turkey in 47 BC. According to *1066 and all that this remark was the cause of the Roman defeat of the Britons.
