(1953) A 'play for voices' by Dylan *Thomas which has become a perennial favourite in the theatre. The complete play was performed in October 1953, with Dylan Thomas himself as the First Voice, at the Poetry Center in New York; the first British production was on the BBC Third Programme early in 1954, with Richard Burton in Thomas's part. The play follows a single day, from one night to the next, in the small imaginary Welsh town of Llaregyb (in the early drafts Llareggub, or 'bugger all' in reverse), which had been inspired by Laugharne, where Thomas lived, along the coast from Swansea.
