(1909–89) Cockney stand-up comic, in the music-hall tradition, who also became popular in films – one of which used his catch phrase as its title (You Lucky People 1954). He was compere of Sunday Night at the London Palladium, from its start on television in 1955 until 1958; and he had a famous link with Fulham Football Club, of which he was chairman (1955–76) and then president until his death.
