|
(George Macaulay Trevelyan, 1876–1962) Historian whose narrative and descriptive skills equalled those of his great uncle, Macaulay, and likewise brought his work to a wide popular audience. He established himself with a three-volume life of Garibaldi (1907–11), but thereafter he specialized in British history. His two most successful books with the public were History of England (1926) and English Social History (1942).
