Kuwaiti tanker responsible in 1967 for Britain's worst oil pollution disaster. She was carrying 30,000 tons of oil when she ran aground on the Seven Stones reef west of Land's End. The ship was bombed by the RAF in an unsuccessful attempt to set the cargo on fire. Some 110km/70m of Cornish coast was polluted. A greater quantity of oil was spilled in the *Shetlands disaster of 1993, but it dispersed with less apparent or immediate damage.
