(active 1688–1712) The greatest craftsman in decorative wrought iron to have worked in England. He was of French origin but is not heard of before he began work at *Chatsworth in 1688 (the date makes it likely that he was a *Huguenot). He provided gates (1695–1707) for *St Paul's Cathedral but the very best of his work is at *Hampton Court (1689–99).
