A restriction on government papers, which under the terms of the Public Records Act (1967) are made public only after 30 years. A new batch of material therefore becomes available at the *Public Record Office on the first working day in each January. Some papers are considered too sensitive even for this delay and have a longer restriction placed on them. Those arguing for a *freedom of information act in Britain point to the greater accessibility of comparable material in other countries, such as the USA.
