(1946) One-act ballet in three movements by Frederick *Ashton, which has come to be considered one of his greatest masterpieces. It is without plot, following the emotional development of the score by César Franck (Variations Symphoniques 1885). The six dancers for whom it was created included Margot *Fonteyn, Moira Shearer and Michael *Somes.
