Summer Time
|
|
(British Summer Time, or BST) The local time in the UK from the last Sunday in March to the Sunday following the fourth Saturday in October. It is one hour ahead of *Greenwich Mean Time and therefore gives an hour more daylight each evening. It was first introduced during World War I (in 1916) and since then there have been occasional variations in its duration, together with two major periods of change: there was Double Summer Time (two hours ahead) in 1941–5; and the extra hour of Summer Time was continued throughout the winters of 1968–70.
