(1922–85) Scottish football manager who brought *Celtic an astonishing run of victories while he was in charge (1965–78), including 10 league victories (9 of them in succession), 8 Scottish FA Cups and the European Cup (1967). He was manager of the Scotland team from 1978, and died of a heart attack at Ninian Park in Cardiff just moments after a 1-1 draw with Wales had ensured Scotland a place in the 1986 World Cup finals.
