(c.1552–1629) Cartographer whose engraved maps of separate counties, many with views of important buildings inset in the corners, became the first printed atlas of the country when published together as The Theatre of the Empire of Great Britain (1611–12). The maps were designed to accompany his History of Great Britaine under the conquests of the Romans, Saxons, Danes and Normans... from Julius Caesar to our most gracious soveraigne King James (1611).
