Robert Southey
|
|
(1774–1843) Poet and historian, remembered chiefly now as one of the *Lake Poets. In 1803 he moved into Greta Hall at Keswick, sharing it first with *Coleridge (the wives of the two poets were sisters). It remained Southey's home for the rest of his life. He later abandoned the radical views of his youth, which had been an important theme in his early friendship with Coleridge. In 1813 he was appointed *poet laureate.
