Skye Boat Song
|
|
A relatively recent song, based on the adapted tune of a sea shanty and with words written in 1884 by Harold Boulton (1859–1935). It has added greatly to the popular fame of Charles Edward *Stuart's escape to Skye in 1746: Speed, bonnie boat, like a bird on the wing; Onward, the sailors cry: Carry the lad that's born to be king Over the sea to Skye.
