(10km/6m W of Marlborough) The largest prehistoric mound in Europe, a flat-topped cone 40m/130ft high, erected some time before 2000 BC for an unknown purpose (there is no evidence of burial within it). It was constructed with great care, of chalk blocks and infill. Though small compared to the pyramids, the traditional calculation is that it would have taken 700 men 10 years to build.
