Sidney Street siege
|
|
(1911) Incident in a street in London's East End, when two armed anarchists died in a house where they had been trapped by police and a detachment of Scots Guards. The memory of it survives largely because the home secretary, Winston *Churchill, appeared in the street to direct operations himself – an involvement for which he was much criticized.
