A supposed prophetess of the early 16C who has provided pamphleteers and the gullible with much excellent material over the centuries. She first appears in a pamphlet of 1641, in which she is said to have foretold various events then known to have happened in the 16C. The pattern has continued up to the present time, particularly in the north of England (she is believed to have lived in York), with successive modern marvels and events retrospectively discovered among her prophecies.
