Scots

It is a famous oddity of British history that the Scots were Irish. They were a Celtic tribe of northern Ireland who began colonizing the west coast of Scotland, probably as early as the 5C, and formed the kingdom of *Dalriada. The same process brought Irish Christians, such as St *Columba, to Scotland. The *Picts were the rival ethnic group in the area now known as the Highlands, but in the reign of *Kenneth I (9C) the Scots finally established themselves as the dominant group in the region.
