scone
|
|
Small round bun, with a brown top and white sides, made from a flaky dough with relatively little fat. Broken in half, and spread with butter, jam and cream, it is an essential ingredient of a *cream tea. By contrast a drop scone, also eaten at tea with butter and jam, is made from batter and is in effect a small thick pancake (an alternative name for it is a Scotch pancake).
