Savoy Hotel
|
|
(London WC2) Built in 1884–9 by Richard *D'Oyly Carte as an adjunct to his *Savoy Theatre, and designed by T.E. Colcutt (1840–1924). Beginning in great style (César Ritz was the original manager, Auguste Escoffier the first chef), the hotel has retained its position as one of the grandest in London, situated with superb views (painted by *Monet) up and down the Thames.
