Sandwich
|
|
The name commonly used for the Royal St George's golf course, near Sandwich in Kent, which became in 1894 the location for the first *Open played outside Scotland. It was then only a few years old; the site had been chosen in 1887 by an Edinburgh player for its similarity to the links with which he was familiar at home. Sandwich has remained one of the regular courses for the Open.
