(1892–1972, DBE 1967) Actress whose solemn appearance and trembling chins made her a natural performer of a certain type of comedy. Two of her best-known stage roles featured also among her many film performances – Madame Arcati in Blithe Spirit (1945) and Miss Prism in The Importance of Being Earnest (1952).
