Royal Film Performance
|
|
A major social event each year in the British film industry, consisting of the premiere of a selected new film before an audience including members of the royal family. The occasion raises money for the Cinema and Television Benevolent Fund. The tradition of what used to be called the Royal Command Film Performance goes back as far as 1896, when the prince of Wales (the future Edward VII) was shown at Marlborough House a programme of 20 short films – among them lively footage of a boxing kangaroo.
