(42km/26m NW of Perth) Resort town in the Tayside region of Scotland, known for its summer festival (May to October) of plays and concerts. First held in 1951 in a marquee, productions are now in the riverside Festival Theatre (opened 1981). At the southern end of the nearby Loch Faskally is a ladder of 34 successive pools where salmon can be watched making their way upstream (it was created when the loch was dammed in 1950 for hydro-electric purposes).
