Camille Pissarro
|
|
(1830–1903) French impressionist painter who, like *Monet, moved to London in 1870–1 to escape the *Franco-Prussian War (the Prussians had overrun Pissarro's village and destroyed nearly all his paintings). He lived in south London (Lower Norwood) and has left many evocative images of the semi-rural suburbs of that time. His son Lucien, also a painter, settled in London in 1890.
