(1951) Ballet by *Cranko to music by Arthur Sullivan, arranged by Charles Mackerras, which was first performed at Sadler's Wells. The story was devised by Cranko from a poem by Sullivan's partner, W.S. Gilbert. It is based on the bumboat woman's story from The Bab Ballads, in which the girls of Portsmouth disguise themselves as sailors to go on board the gunboat Hot Cross Bun.
