The *BBC's weekly listing magazine for its programmes, launched in 1923 when newspapers refused to print full details of what could be heard on the radio; in the event Radio Times became a bestselling magazine, and readers came to demand the same information on a daily basis in their newspapers. Television listings were included in the Radio Times from the beginning of the new medium, but without the name being changed to acknowledge the intruder. From the start of commercial television (and subsequently radio) viewers needed to buy also the rival *TV Times, until copyright restrictions on listings were outlawed in the late 1980s. Since 1991 both magazines have listed all the available radio and television programmes, including those of the satellite stations.
