Private Member's Bill
|
|
A bill introduced in the House of Commons by a backbencher. The first 20 MPs drawn in a ballot (held at the start of each parliamentary session) may present a bill. The procedure is the same as for any other bill attempting to become an *act of parliament, but relatively few private members' bills reach that final stage, since they usually lack government support and the time allotted to them is short.
