(51,000 in 1991) Port and town on the north shore of the Bristol Channel, in West Glamorgan. It is the site of Britain's largest steel-producing complex in the early 1990s, with blast furnaces, coke ovens and rolling and strip mills extending some 7km/4m along the coast. A deep-water harbour was completed in 1970.
