Poppy Day
|
|
The name by which *Armistice Day became known because of the custom of wearing a red cloth poppy, in token of the famous poppies of the fields of Flanders where so many had died. The poppies proved a brilliant fund-raising as well as commemorative device. They are made and sold by the *British Legion, and the proceeds go to their charities for ex-service men and women.
