Sylvia Plath
|
|
(1932–63) American author who became part of the British scene after marrying Ted *Hughes in 1957. She had published only one volume of poems (The Colossus 1960) and an autobiographical novel (The Bell Jar 1963) by the time she committed suicide in London in 1963. But several posthumous volumes – in particular Ariel (1965) – consolidated her reputation as a poet blending wit and tightly controlled distress.
