Pericles, Prince of Tyre
|
|
(c.1608) Play by *Shakespeare in which an immensely complex plot, involving a succession of sea voyages and shipwrecks, results in Pericles temporarily losing both his wife, Thaisa, and his infant daughter, Marina. Their reunion after an interval of several years prefigures Shakespeare's more successful treatment of the same theme in (The Winter's Tale. The *First Folio did not include Pericles, but it had been published earlier in a quarto edition with Shakespeare's name on the title page. It is possible that the first two acts are largely by another author.
